How to join

University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations is helping young learners, parents and teachers to connect across East Asia, through a fun, international activity of sharing New Year’s Resolutions.

We believe that learning English should be both educational and fun and help prepare students for an increasingly globalised world. From an early age, children are being taught how to communicate in English but rarely have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills due to the language environment in which they live.

Here’s the opportunity!

Through Cambridge English Penfriends, we are connecting schools from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, enabling them to exchange greetings cards designed by their students. So if your Primary School hasn’t joined ‘Cambridge English Penfriends’ yet, what are you waiting for?

How to get started

  1. Step 1:Register your school
Once you have registered, we will send you a Cambridge English Penfriends Activity Pack, web banner and Certificate stating that your school is an official member. We will also announce your participation to the world through this website.
  2. Step 2:Start designing!
Work with your students to design their very own Cambridge English New Year’s Resolution cards. We will provide a lesson plan to help with this.
  3. Step 3:Upload
Select 3 cards to be uploaded to this website for the world to see. Simply scan or take a photo of each of the chosen cards and upload them.
  4. Step 4:Get connected
We will provide you with details of a school located within East Asia for you to send the completed New Year’s Resolution cards. NB. Postage is the responsibility of your school.

In exchange, your students will each receive a New Year's Resolution card from another student in East Asia. These will be sent directly to your school in a box, to be shared amongst your students.

A certificate will also be issued to each student who takes part in the exchange.
